This Farmer Grows Furniture Instead Of Food

This farmer isn’t just growing trees, he’s shaping them into living furniture. It takes up to a decade to complete one chair.

It sounds like something out of Alice In Wonderland, or a Xanth novel. British farmer Gavin Munro is growing chairs. You heard that right, he’s not building chairs, he’s actually shaping trees into the shapes he needs as they grow, creating furniture and art from living plants.

Gavin and his company started planting their first crop in 2008, and harvested their first chair 4 years later. Since then his line of furniture has grown to include lamps, tables, and mirrors. These aren’t cheap though, as it takes years to create these works of usable art.
