The largest land mammal on the planet, elephants are also among the most intelligent species on earth. They can recognize their own reflection, meaning they might have a highly developed sense of self-identity, similar to humans.
A herd of elephants will often show a sense of empathy with others, adopting calves from outside the herd into their family, or protecting young of other elephants that they themselves did not give birth to. All of this adds up to a very intelligent creature, both emotionally and socially.
