Main Street, USA in the 1950s

In the 1950s America saw the rise of Main Street. A lively and remarkable location where people could shop for anything and everything. It was also a popular place to hold parades.

The video’s goal is to show how it looked back when it first began. There are several pictures of various Main Streets, very similar and different in their own way.

Every Main Street would have a wide road for cars and the parades of course. The sidewalks would be full of people roaming about. Some streets would have tall trees, and their buildings would have different types of architecture.

Shopping malls were built in the 60s and even more appeared in the 70s. Due to the popularity of these malls, Main Streets suffered a steep decline. There were simply less people who visited it.

Main Street was such a great symbol of the US, that Disney used it in every park entrance they have. It is a great introduction to welcome visitors to the happiest place on earth.

It was thanks to Disney that Main Streets were kept alive in that sense, but recently they have seen a revitalization thanks to nostalgia and tourism.

Revitalization efforts have breathed life back into the Main Streets. It is seeing business again as people from all over the world come to visit the unique destination of the US.
