Payless ShoeSource was a household name for families in the 50s and 60s. Starting in 1956, it became the go-to place for discount shoes. But like many, it succumbed to the tides of time and filed for bankruptcy in 2017. A mere two years later, all its stores closed, marking an end of an era.

The rise of digitalization saw Borders Books shutting its doors. Founded in 1978, it became one of the largest booksellers. But failing to adapt to the digital age cost them dearly. Their shelves, once bustling with books, music, and DVDs, lay vacant by 2011.

Circuit City, the electronic giant of the 70s and 80s, had its own tale of glory and downfall. Once a pioneer of the Big Box concept, it too vanished by 2009.

The Eckerds, a drugstore empire, started its journey in 1898. After spanning a century and housing over 2,000 stores, it was eventually consumed by bigger names like CVS and Rite Aid.

Despite the convenience of online streaming, Family Video held its ground. But challenges like the pandemic took a toll, leading to its closure by 2022. Similarly, Builder Square, once a haven for DIY enthusiasts, saw its end in the late 90s.
