Celtic Thunder’s “Irish Blessing” is pure bliss to our ears

When it comes to spine-shivering harmonies, there is no musical group that can top Celtic Thunder. Their performance of “An Irish Blessing (May the Road Rise Up to Meet You)” is no exception.

Celtic Thunder

For those who have not had the pleasure of listening to Celtic Thunder, they were an Irish singing group that formed in 2007. Whether they performed in their home country or abroad, they brought their rich cultural heritage.

If it was not clear enough from their choice of backup instruments or the sets of their shows, the songs Celtic Thunder performed often had strong connections to Irish history and culture.

“An Irish Blessing (May the Road Rise Up to Meet You)” is not coy about its connection to Irish culture. “May the road rise up to meet you” is a traditional benediction Irish people would give to those they wish well.

For those of us overseas who are not used to this saying, the words might sound a little strange. But the meaning is a familiar one. Another way to put this blessing would be: “May your journey be an easy one.”

But if we are honest with ourselves, the real blessing of this performance from Celtic Thunder was the talent these fantastic singers showed with each rich, smooth note they sang.

Each of these men sang in perfect, bone-chilling harmony, but wait until you hear the youngest member of Celtic Thunder, Emmet Cahill join with his heartwarming voice. What a performance!
