Shawn Mendes & Zedd Reinvent A Timeless Love Story With ‘Lost In Japan‘

Let Shawn Mendes & Zedd Tell You a Timeless Love Story Reinvented With ‘Lost In Japan‘

‘Lost in Japan’ was already a hit before its video dropped. Zedd and Shawn Mendes have been friends for quite a while and tried to work together a number of times before the remix happened. Finally, the two came together to remix this track from the album of the same name.

As a remake of the 2003 cult classic romantic comedy ‘Lost in Translation’ by Sofia Coppola, Mendez has shown everyone just how good his production can be. Fans consider this one of the best music videos he has ever made, with the distinctive influences of Zedd just making it better.

This song and video are quite a contrast to the ballads and classically love songs that Shawn has come to be known for. While still taking the listening through a journey of love, his song ramps up the pace with driving fat bass and far more personable look at our favorite star’s attitude toward love.

Having been compared to artists like Justin Timberlake, Mendez has done a fantastic job on both the music and video production. All of the biggest scenes from the movie have been recreated. You’ll notice the elevator scene, alcohol ad, karaoke, the movie poster, and the pink wig, among many others featuring throughout the video.

Shawn explained during an interview with Billboard, that Justin Timberlake was indeed a key influence during the making of this song, while also attributing the inspiration to a dream. He said, “I had this dream that I was lost in this country and I woke up the next day, and we had this cool piano part and the song was birthed.”

Watch Shawn Mendes retell ‘Lost in Translation’ with his funky love song ‘Lost in Japan’ and its remix by Zedd.
