Improvised drums have been around for a while now. And while just about any drummer playing an improvised drum will attract passerby’s interest, this Philippines drummer boy certainly requires the tip of the hat.
The ingenious resourcefulness of people is always a source of inspiration. When it also enables further development of one’s talents and aspirations it becomes ingenious.
The little drummer boy from Dasmariñas, Cavite, Philippines is benefiting from that resourcefulness as someone who cares for his talent had to build the very intriguing improvised drum for him.
That fact aside, his talent, albeit a bit rough, is something he and his family should be proud of. Playing Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ note-by-note is not as easy as he is making it look.
While getting the rhythm and the hand and feet coordination right is down to practice, being able to interpret and adapt it to a vastly different instrument is down to talent and personal taste.
This boy of wonder has it all. As he continues to advance talents on the improvised drum, just imagine what he’ll do when he sits behind the real thing.
