“If you gathered a list of the greatest vocalists of our generation, it would be incomplete without Kelly Clarkson on it. What this 5’3” singer lacks in height, she more than makes up for in powerful, moving vocals.
Since this girl from Ft. Worth, Texas was discovered in 2012, she has made waves in the music industry. Kelly is, and will undoubtedly remain, a record-maker and record-breaker. She’s had a draw-dropping number of #1 hits on the Billboard charts – 100! – and holds the title as the first artist to top each of Billboard’s pop, adult contemporary, adult pop, country and dance charts. All of this accomplished already, and she’s only thirty-seven!
On her “A Minute and a Glass of Wine” Tour, Kelly performed in Dallas, Texas. That night, she took on “Dancing on My Own,” a song first performed by Swedish singer Robyn in 2010 and most recently in 2016 by English singer Calum Scott.
As always, she captures your attention, from the very first note to the very last. The only instrument accompanying her was the piano. That in itself was very brave of her. Many artists feel the need to overwhelm a song with as many instruments as possible, as if the value of a song is determined by how loud or complicated it is. Kelly knew that the best way to make an impact with this song was to keep it simple.
As Kelly sings this heartbreaking song about seeing a former lover with someone else, you are reminded why she is such a force to be reckoned with. The control and power she has in her voice are simply amazing. It was complete perfection.
One of Kelly’s greatest talents is her special way of tapping into the emotion of a song and making you feel it in a way you never thought possible. You believe every word she’s saying.
