Youtuber How To Make Everything takes on the challenge of creating his own T-shirt from scratch. He grows the cotton and dyes, weaves and prints his own garment, taking 3 years to complete it.
Interested in knowing the true cost of a T-shirt, How To Make Everything decided to grow and dye his own garment. The first step involved figuring out how to grow cotton in Maine, where the growing season is too short for the heat-loving crop.
Another challenge came when it was time to weave the cotton into cloth. Spinning cotton into thread is hard because the fibers are so short. In order to complete this step, he worked with a friend to design and build a computerized thread spindle that he used to create his cotton thread.
